Real Men Rejoice as ‘Metrosexual’ Era Ends

The words metro sexual came into existence with the new avatar of the 21st century men. Ideally it is a neologism which is applied to all heterosexual men and they have a great deal of concern for their appearances and their lifestyle is very similar that of gay men. It has a lot of association with consumerism and is usually a theoretical signifier that portrays gender deconstruction.
Used significantly to depict the changing dressing, walking and even shaving patterns of men the word heterosexual had been gradually replaced with the term metrosexual. It also depicts the interest of the market channels and also media which largely encouraged the portrayal of this man. Basically the signs which classified a man as heterosexual of metrosexual were lean but not overtly masculine bodies, shaved faces and waxed chests, chocolaty looks replacing the macho look which was very popular at the time of ‘Titanic’ and Leonardo depicted the same. The new metrosexual man preferred going to malls and did not mind getting pedicures and manicures. They were in touch with their feminine sides and the marketing media always reminded them of this fact. They would be worried about issues like soft hues and brighter colours, exfoliation of their skin and too a certain extent man-scaped. They were not gay but sensitively straight and women during that era could not have better luck in being the man of the house.

Earlier the task of the men was limited to the bread earner of the house and not the one who indulged in over shopping for themselves. But the metrosexual man was mainly concerned about how he looked and dressed. In simple words this man was the dream of all advertisements. The craze went to such an extent that some of the most popular women magazines took out their editions of men to serve the interest of the metrosexual man. But the past two years have shown a rapid decline in the concept of the metrosexual man. The attention from the clean shaven chocolaty boy has gone back to stubbles and rugged looks. Of course, men are still more conscious about their hygiene and still resort to well kept nails and feet but attention from being shopping-centric has moved on to maintaining their stubbles. Thankfully the end of the era also witnesses a time when women don’t have to share their lip balms with men. Even men can afford to breathe a sigh of relief and get back to being themselves.
