Swimming is one of the safest exercises for women of all age

Women are prone to pains of the joint and bone related ailments. Arthritis, osteoporosis, pain of the joints, weakening of the knees and other related problems are some of the most common ailments that women suffer from. One of the best solutions to get stronger bones and maintain body weight is to exercise. Due to the restrictions on the pressure applied to knee joints, women suffering from the same are often prohibited from doing aerobics and similar kinds of exercises. Other gym exercises like stepper, treadmill, etc. are also very restricted. Hence women are left with limited options like walking and swimming.
Swimming is always the more suggested exercise for women suffering from such problems and event those who don’t because the pressure applied on the knee and other joints of the body is minimal due to the buoyancy in water. When you are performing any kind of exercise in water then the resistance provided by the water reduces the stress applied on the knee joints. Also the weight of the person in water is reduced up to 90% as compared to land. Hence you can easily perform all aerobic exercises in water.
Swimming helps you to maintain the overall shape of the body. The constant movement of the legs helps to maintain their shape and also to strengthen the joints and bones. The different strokes require the movement of the muscles of the stomach and also give it a good pull as you change hands. Hence it also gives you the same strength training which you do with weights on land. The shoulders and the muscles of the hands are also worked upon. Besides you don’t have to perspire but feel refreshed and energized. You loose weight and that too without hurting your knees.

While swimming try and do a few stretches before you jump into the pool or try to do paddling before you start doing laps. This will warm your muscles and avoid any sudden pulls of the same. Always apply a good cream on your body and conditioner on the hair to avoid the harsh effects of the chlorine water. If you wear lenses then try and avoid wearing them during the swim session as chances of allergies are higher. Swimming will help you maintain your health and also avoid problems of the joints and bones.
