Patient becomes victim to insensate negligence of medicos, succumbs to death

Throughout the world and in every society doctors have special significances since they are the last hopes of ailing people and also saviours from the ultimate reality, death. In this respect there is no such difference between cultures and that have let the medical science become the pillar of the modern society. Now what will happen if this humongous faith gets betrayed and the ailing patient dies due to sheer negligence of medicos? It will scourge the confidence completely!

Well, exactly this thing happened in the Kolkata when a cancer patient died in a reputed private hospital of the city. The very patient, 'Kuntal Chowdhury became the victim of the carelessness of an anaesthetist who, according to the available information, injected chemo medicine into his spine in place of vein.
It has been learnt that Mr. Chowdhury was a 37-year-old bank employee, who, on account of deteriorating health was admitted to the acclaimed Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai in the last February. He was, however, suffering from the pestilent disease of gland cancer (malignant neoplasm lymphoma). In the following days, in the month of June, he was intromited to the Woodlands Nursing Home in Kolkata where under the auspices of Dr. Jindal he went through three sessions of chemotherapy.
Speaking on this his colleague Sujit Das told to newsmen, 'Kuntal Chowdhury was injected vincrestine, an anti-cancer drug, into the spine by an anaesthetist in the absence of Rajesh Jindal, the doctor-in-charge, at Woodlands Nursing Home June 14. He died Wednesday after living on ventilator for the past 15 days.
'Seeing Chowdhury's deteriorating health, Jindal advised him to be taken to Mumbai's Tata Memorial Hospital. But doctors there declared that there is nothing to be done. He was admitted to Belle View Nursing Home here June 24,' he added.
According to the consideration of Mr. Das this was no general incident or negligence but the outcome of a gruesome and planned murder. There could not be any kind of justification behind the absence of any doctor especially when his patient was going through chemotherapy.
To the latest information, the case has not ended with the unfortunate death of the young patient, since organisations like People for Better Treatment (PBT), which is considered as an eminent patient's rights body of India, has stepped in. It has also sent a letter to the Human Rights Department of the state demanding immediate penalizations against both doctor and anaesthetist.
If PBT succeeds it will definitely embolden the spirits of hapless patients and their families.
